Reliability and Power Quality Conference: 27 - 29 August 2014

Circulars to AMEU members in May and July 2014 informed them of an invitation to attend the second Reliability and Power Quality conference to be hosted by Eskom at its Academy of Learning (EAL) in Midrand between 27 and 29 August 2014.

The theme of the conference is `Management of power quality to ensure optimal product delivery to customers’ and has been arranged for the purposes of:
  • ensuring skills transfer and development;
  • providing a platform to present local case studies; and
  • sharing best practise influencing network performance and quality of supply (QOS).

Eskom objective is to provide an opportunity for sharing Eskom local reliability improvement initiatives within the PQ fraternities and related stakeholder groupings within Eskom and the municipalities and thus invited 10 members of the AMEU to observe or participate in the conference at no cost. Municipal delegates exceeding this number will be required to pay the standard registration fee of R1 500 per delegate.

CONFERENCE TOPICS  

The following conference topics will be covered:

  • IPP (Distributed Generation) and impact on performance and QOS
  • Environmental impact on QOS / performance
  • Case studies and investigations: Performance/QOS improvement success stories
  • Protection considerations with relation to power quality
  • Equipment reliability and performance
  • QOS and performance research
  • Planning and design for superior reliability and power quality
  • Operations impact on reliability and power quality

EXPECTED BENEFITS OF THE CONFERENCE

  • Provide an opportunity for utilities to share local initiatives to improve the reliability of networks
  • Allow individuals to network and interact with fellow colleagues facing similar reliability and power quality challenges  
  • Present a platform to understand power quality issues being experienced within utilities, share best practices and case studies on how to overcome them
  • CPD points for ECSA registered members, pending conference approval
