City manager gets six months in jail for not paying Eskom bill

This was the headline of an article published in the Rand Daily Mail on 25 February 2015. It states that this landmark judgment by Free State High Court is the first serious action taken against local government defaulters and relates to a municipal manager being found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to six months in jail.

NERSA Consultation Paper: Municipal tariff guideline, benchmarks and proposed timelines for the municipal tariff approval process for the 2015/16 financial year

NERSA issued a consultation paper on 18 November 2014 inviting comment on the “Municipal tariff guideline, benchmarks and proposed timelines for the municipal tariff approval process for the 2015/16 financial year” by 18 December 2014. It also convened a stakeholder workshop on 2 December 2014 to discuss aspects of the submission of D-Forms for the processing of municipal tariff applications as well as the proposed NERSA guidelines for tariff increases to be effective from July 2015.
